Bengaluru: Indian actor and film director Prakash Raj, who has ventured into politics in recent years, recently spoke to News Trail about his perspective on the Lok Sabha Election 2024.

Addressing Prime Minister Modi's recent comments on minorities, Raj expressed strong criticism, labelling Modi as a divisive leader.

“Modi is the cheapest leader who has stooped down to a low level where he openly degraded the Muslim community. Now I am at least happy that the truth about him is out and he proved himself to be a communal leader,” the actor said.

Rather than endorsing a specific party or candidate, Prakash Raj emphasised his role as a questioner, advocating for the people's interests.

He stated, “I can make a greater impact by questioning leaders and standing alongside the people rather than aligning with a political party.”

This approach reflects his belief in prioritising people over party politics. Prakash Raj also urged first-time voters to exercise their democratic rights.

He emphasised, “Voting is not just a right; it's the foundation of democracy. By abstaining from voting, one forfeits the right to question.”

He described the empowering experience of casting a vote, saying, “The sense of power and responsibility one feels after voting is unparalleled. The joy and liberation of participating in shaping the nation's future through democratic participation are indescribable.”

He further highlighted the importance of minority representation in the electoral process. He encouraged every minority group to vote, stressing that collective voting power can make a significant difference.

On the topic of his former co-star Vijay's political aspirations, Prakash Raj remained openminded, stating, “Vijay is free to express his political ambitions and address national issues. If he can genuinely address and resolve the country's challenges, he is welcome to lead.”
