"Achieving this was a challenging task, but if you can be focused and maintain a positive attitude, good marks can be scored. Giving in to anxiety will only hamper your preparation," Medha said.

Decline in result performance despite increase in grace marks

Conducted from March 25 to April 6, the SSLC exam saw participation of 8,59,967 students, of whom 6,31,204 passed. While 785 government schools across the state have got 100 percent results, about 78 schools record zero percent results of which three are in Bengaluru.

The pas percentage has dipped by 10.49% this year. Last year, as many as 8,35,102 students appeared for the SSLC exams, of whom 7,00,619 passed recording a percentage of 83.89 per cent.

Ritesh Kumar Singh, principal secretary school education department, said that the decrease in pass percentage is due to webcasting which was introduced in order to reduce malpractices and ensure examination integrity.

Considering the decline in pass percentage this year, as a remedial measure, the education department is set to take up curative teaching in the next one month for all students who haven't done well in exam-1 or who want to improve their marks so that they are better prepared for exams-2 and 3.

Also, the state managed to obtain a pass percentage of 73.40% just because the Karnataka government had decided to increase the grace marks from 10% to 20% in all subjects as one time measure for all 3 SSLC exams this time. Else, the percentage in the state would have been a meagre 54%.

Schedule for exam-2

On Thursday evening, the KSEAB announced that the supplementary exams (exam-2) for SSLC are scheduled to take place from June 7 to 14.

These supplementary exams, known as Exam-2 and Exam-3, provide students the chance to retake their exams regardless of their initial results.
