Cong planning to win Council polls with money power: Bommai

NT Correspondent

Bengaluru: Having ‘lost people’s support,’ the Congress party is planning to win the December 10 Legislative Council election using money power and this has now been exposed, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Addressing the ‘Vijaya Sankalpa’ convention organised by the BJP at Attibele in Anekal taluk, Bommai alleged that the Congress had stooped to the level of using any means to win the election and had fielded ‘moneybags’ as its candidates, making them pay big to the party kitty. “The moral decline in the Congress has become evident. People should show the Congress its place as the party is trying to win the election through an immoral splurge of money,” he claimed.

Reacting to Opposition leader Siddaramaiah’s allegations that the BJP always uses money and muscle power to win elections, Bommai said, it is the Congress which is indulging in such practices. “What morality do you have to talk about it when you are banking on money power while selecting candidates for fighting the election? You(Siddu) did not bother to take care of gram panchayats when in power. Your promise just ahead of the 2018 elections to distribute one lakh houses has remained a promise.” The BJP government in the state has initiated action to build one lakh homes in urban areas and 4 lakh homes in rural areas. They would be completed in one and a half years, Bommai said.

Expressing the view that comprehensive development of Bengaluru is possible only if the adjoining gram panchayat areas are well developed, Bommai said that all round development of these villages is the objective of his government. The revenue generated by industrialisation of Bengaluru would be utilised for the development of these gram panchayats, he added.

Anekal Vision

“Several entrepreneurs have shown keen interest to invest in Anekal. Our government will prepare an exclusive ‘Anekal Vision’ document for the comprehensive development of Anekal on the lines of Bengaluru Vision,” Bommai stated.

BSY: Cong will continue to sit in Opposition for 25 years

Chamarajanagar: Senior BJP leader and former CM B.S. Yediyurappa on Sunday claimed that there is a wave of public support in favour of his party in the country and the Congress will continue to sit in the opposition for the next 25 years.

“There is a wave in favour of BJP across the country. The Congress is going to remain in opposition for the next 25 years in Lok Sabha. The Congress is somehow breathing here in Karnataka,” Yediyurappa told reporters here.

The BJP strongman was replying to a query on veteran Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge’s alleged remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s failure on the development front.

Yediyurappa said as a senior Congress leader, Kharge should speak responsibly when the entire world admires Modi. “Ghulam Nabi Azad has said the BJP and not the Congress will come to power next time. In this situation, if Mallikarjun Kharge makes such comments who will value his words. He should at least look at the ground realities,” Yediyurappa said. On the MLC elections in 25 seats across the 20 local bodies, which is scheduled on December 10, the former CM said he was confident of winning at least 16 out of 20 seats where the BJP is contesting. Yediyurappa further said he is seeing a wave in favour of the BJP and people have decided to vote for the saffron party candidates this time. -(PTI)
