Make way for wider Padarayanapura road

Bengaluru: Padarayanpura Main Road in the city is set to be widened in a span of one month at a cost Rs 240 crore. Housing and Infrastructure Development Minister V Somanna said that the necessary work will be undertaken to start the road widening work soon at a meeting on Monday.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, he said that in order to widen the main road for a total of 1.8 km from Sirsi Circle (Binny mill) to Vijayanagar pipeline, the corporation's engineers, urban planners, and senior authorities of the police department were consulted.

A detailed project report has been prepared for the road widening without affecting any religious places in the vicinity. In 2017, the local people were entrusted with giving TDR (transfer of development rights) regarding road widening.

But as there is a lot of confusion among people about TDR, according to the instructions of the Supreme Court, the compensation amount will be given to the local people at the current rate, he said. “Where poor people live, infrastructure needs to be developed, and if civilization is to be taken to a higher level, roads and infrastructure are necessary. In this regard, if Padarayanapura Road is widened, the local area will benefit. People surrounding Chamarajpet, Vijayanagar and Govindarajanagar will see a lot of ease,” Somanna said.

Completing the process in one month All the processes related to the road widening will be completed in a month and work will be started soon. After that, appropriate compensation will be given to the private property owners in a phased manner, Somanna has said.

Details of road widening A total of 1,63,190 sq. feet of space is required to widen the 1.8 km long Padarayanapura main road by 24 metres. Out of which 1,13,875 sq.ft (about 140 properties) will come from private assets, for which Rs 140 crore will be allocated.

Other than that, there is government land of BBMP, KPTCL, Jalmandali, police department, road widening bringing up the total cost to Rs 240 crore. One railway over bridge, one stormwater drain bridge and two culverts are coming up on the road route. Both sides of the road will have a 1.50 metre rainwater channel and 2.50 metre footpath.
