Bengaluru: Hundreds of them visited Domlur Mela organised by Domlur Layout Residents’ Welfare Association at Ajja Ajji Road. It was a memorable day for the residents as most of them remained confined to their homes for around 20 months due to the pandemic.

The fair was lit with 50 stalls offering many shopping options for the residents to buy sarees, condiments, pickles, and health products. Domlur Senior Citizens’ Charitable Trust President V Krishna Murthy said, “The Mela is a good way for the vendors to earn some profit. These vendors were struggling a lot due to lack of amenities to sell their products. I am happy that some of the vendors have managed to sell sarees and other materials while earning a decent profit.”

Pankaja CA of Lakshmikeshava Food Products from Rajajinagar said that she came to know about Domlur Mela through social media. “I was sceptical about selling groundnut chikkis and other snacks during the mela as it is my first time, I am coming to Domlur from Rajajinagar. I succeeded in selling snacks worth Rs 7,000 by afternoon. I am very happy.’

There was a unique stall selling coconut pots. Prasadam Farms put up a stall to sell coconut pots. “I managed to sell 50 coconut pots and also received many inquiries. We own a coconut farm at KR Pet. We are also mulling to facilitate marketing facilities for other coconut farmers. Many in rural areas throw coconut shells on the roadside as they are not aware of converting them into coconut pots,’’ said Swaroop Rajasekhar of Prasadam Farms.

Speaking with News Trail, one of the organisers, Amitha Kumar said around 500 elders and 200 children visited the mela where a magic show was held for children. “We have advised the vendors as well as the visitors to follow Covid Appropriate Behaviour,’’ Amitha added.
