Bengaluru: BJP MLA and National General Secretary CT Ravi recently stated that Siddaramaiah had been given the title of ‘Siddramullah Khan’ as he took the side of Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan.
Retaliating to this, the Karnataka Congress Twitter handle posted a picture of Chief Minister Bommai in a skull cap from its archives and tweeted, “Can he be called "Bommayullah Khan" @BJP4Karnataka?” Ravi had justified his statement claiming Siddaramaiah had called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “murderer, Ravan and Bhasmasur”.
“Siddramullah Khan is not an abuser. Why are you getting irritated with this name? It is a title that suits your feelings,” he had said. The statement has stirred much controversy within the state and has taken a communal turn. Leaders of the Kuruba community, to which Siddaramaiah belongs, have warned Ravi to take back his statement or “face its consequences”.
Siddaramaiah is known for his witty attacks at the RSS, Hindutva, the PM and Home Minister Amit Shah. “Once upon a time, leaders were like this. One day ever y thing changes for political power. @BSBommai #BharatJodaYatra,” tweeted Shakir Sanadi, a member of the Congress party
