Test series in SA to begin with Boxing Day Test

Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced its revised schedule for India’s multi-format tour to South Africa on Monday. The Wanderers will host the New Year’s Test against India beginning on January 3. Cape Town has traditionally hosted the new year’s Test in the South African summer but the Test was allocated to Johannesburg due to logistical issues.

The series which was under a cloud due to the emergence of the Omicron COVID- 19 variant in South Africa will now begin with the Boxing Day Test on December 26 at Centurion. While the three-Test match series has been retained alongside three ODIs, the four-match T20I series has been postponed to a “more opportune time” later in 2022.

Schedule:

1st Test: 26-30 December, 2021 - Centurion
2nd Test: 03-07 January, 2022 - Johannesburg
3rd Test: 11-15 January, 2022 - Cape Town

1st ODI: 19 January, 2022 - Paarl
2nd ODI: 21 January, 2022 - Paarl
3rd ODI: 23 January, 2022 - Cape Town
