Bagalkot: In a shocking incident which bears a striking resemblence to the gruesome murder of Shraddha Walkar, a twenty-year old youth was arrested by the Bagalkot district police for allegedly murdering his father and chopping his body into 30 pieces. The accused was identified by the police as Vittala Kulali, a resident of Mudhol town.
According to Bagalkot Superintendent of Police (SP) Jayaprakash, one of Vittal's friend was also involved in the murder. As per police sources, the incident had taken place on the night of December 6 when the accused reportedly got into an argument with his drunk father, Parashuram Kulali, 53.
It was revealed that Prashuram was an alcoholic and used to physically abuse his son regularly. On the fateful night, a drunk Parashuram reportedly started an argument over a trivial issue. The war of words between the two soon took a violent turn with Parashuram thrashing Vittala.
In a fit of rage, the youth picked up an iron rod and hit his father, killing him. "He panicked after the death of his father and decided to dispose of his father's body in a borewell on his farm on the outskirts of Mudhol Town," sources said.
"As he failed to push the body inside the well, Vittala allegedly chopped it into several pieces. He then threw each piece into the well and covered it with soil," sources added. The murder came to light after some locals noticed a foul smell emanating from the borewell and informed the police.
Vittala went missing after the incident and when he returned home on Saturday, he reportedly told his family that he had gone away after a fight with his father. On Monday when the police questioned him in custody, he confessed to the murder. Based on Vittala’s statements, some pieces of Parashurama’s body were recovered by the police with the help of earthmovers.
After an investigation it was revealed that the accused was Parashuram’s younger son who used to stay with him, while his wife and elder son had moved away due to Parashuram’s harassment.Vittala’s mother in her statement to the police said that Parashuram would often abuse the family and hit them with whatever was in his hand, threatening to kill them all.
“As they argued that day, Parashuram took an axe to attack Vittala. Angered by this, Vittala used an iron rod and assaulted his father,” she claimed. “When he told us about the incident, we asked him to surrender and said that we would not help him in any way. He tried to hide it initially, but once we found out, we made him confess,” she added.
