Bengaluru: An injection administered the wrong way by a person claiming to be a doctor, cost a 29-year-old garment worker her leg. Following a complaint, the quack was arrested by the police and it was revealed that he did not have any authorised medical certificate. The cops recovered several stocks of medicines and injections from the clinic.

Suffering from fever, Jyothi, a resident of Dasarahalli, had reportedly visited a poly clinic in Hegganahalli on September 25, where she was given an injection by the accused, identified as Nagaraj Savanur. “There was no nurse in the clinic and the accused had himself given me an injection that day,” Jyothi told News Trail.

Following the injection, Jyothi’s condition turned worse as she found herself unable to walk. Later, when she visited Savanur again, he gave her an ointment for the pain and the black spot. After a few days of applying the ointment, the area where the injection had been administered, had caused septic leading to more complications including pus formation.

At the next visit when Jyothi’s husband questioned Savanur about the injection, the accused referred them to a hospital where the doctors asked Jyothi to undergo an operation to remove the infection. “When my husband complained about it to the accused, he tried to assure him, saying that he would take care of the hospital expenses,” the victim added.

Furious at this, the couple approached Rajagopala Nagar police and filed a complaint, based on which Nagaraj Savanur and the owner of the clinic, Kumaraswamy, have been arrested. Speaking to News Trail, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru North, Vinayak Patil said, “On Monday, a case was registered against the accused after the victim lost full use of her leg following a visit to his clinic for treatment of fever.”

“Suspecting foul play after several complications, the victim’s husband took her to a different hospital where the doctors said that she has to undergo surgery. We have arrested two people and written a letter about the fake clinic to the officials concerned. Further investigation is underway,” he added
