Bengaluru: A Hyderabadbased businessman was assaulted by a gang of miscreants, who allegedly conned him out of Rs 1 crore by promising to help him procure a loan of Rs 10 crore. Based on a complaint, Bagalur police have arrested five accused in the case, identified as Kumar, Ranjith Kumar, Srikanth Reddy, Aditya and Manoj Kumar.

The victim, Rameshwar, owner of a software firm in Hyderabad, was seeking a business loan when he came in contact with Manoj Kumar who claimed to be one of the descendants of the Mysuru Royal family.

Promising to help him procure the loan, Manoj introduced the victim to a person named Arasu who impressed the victim with his dressing style and then lured him into paying Rs 1 crore in commission to sanction him a loan of Rs 10 crore.

However, when the loan amount was not dispatched to him even after a month, the victim began suspecting foul play and asked Manoj Kumar to return his amount. The jurisdictional police said that the accused made the victim travel to and from the city several times before avoiding his phone calls as the victim demanded his money be returned.

“After the victim threatened to file a case against the accused in Hyderabad, he requested the victim to come to Bengaluru for a final settlement,” sources from the police told News Trail. The victim was asked to meet the accused at a restaurant near Boodigere in Devanahalli.

However, the victim was blocked on the way to the hotel in a car near Gollahalli by unidentified people, who allegedly assaulted him. The victim is currently being treated at a private hospital here for a fractured leg and other injuries caused by the gang. Meanwhile, the police are interrogating the five accused.
