Bengaluru: Sankalp India Foundation officially opened a new campus in Bengaluru city that houses various significant social projects, on Saturday. The opening ceremony was held with Bollywood star Jackie Shroff serving as the Guest of Honour.
The venue for the event was Dr BR Ambedkar Bhavan, located on Millers Road near the Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital in Vasanthnagar. Founded on 23 May 2003, Sankalp India Foundation is a legally recognised non-profit organisation that promotes voluntary blood donation and offers organised approaches to preventing, treating, and curing severe blood disorders in children.
The blood donation drives aim at making a thalassemia-free India. Sankalp foundation has five ongoing projects, and 'Rakta Kranti' is one of them. It focuses on blood donation from all over Bengaluru and pan India.
The foundation holds 200-250 blood donation camps annually, collecting around 17,000 units. Project manager of 'Rakta Kranti' Soumi Dutta feels it's their prime responsibility to help children since, at times, blood banks go down to single-digit stocks. During such times, these blood drives come in handy.
She said, "The major reason we organise blood drives is to help children suffering from thalassemia. It feels great to help these children since blood is the major drug they need throughout their lives."
