Inspiring story: AC repairman's son scores 99.78 percentile in CAT

Ahmedabad: The 22-year-old son of an air conditioner repairman has cleared the Common Admission Test (CAT) for a second time with a score of 99.78 percentile. Razin Mansuri in the year 2021 had scored 96.20 percentile and was eligible for admission in IIM Udaipur.

However, he was not satisfied with the results and decided to give the examination another shot. Mansuri’s efforts paid off as he did better than the previous year’s test, scoring 99.78 percentile, increasing his chances for an admission in IIM Ahmedabad or IIM Bangalore.

Hailing from Ahmedabad, Razin completed his engineering in IT from Ahmedabad University in May this year. His father Irfan Mansuri works as an air conditioner repairman and earns an average of Rs 25,000 per month. Along with mother Sabiha and younger brother Rehan, the family of four reside in a one bedroom house in Juhapura.

Since the family does not have much economical support, Razin grew up studying through assistance from scholarships.After completing his high school from CN Vidyalaya, he took admission in Ahmedabad University. He also received a scholarship at AU due to his impressive performance. Razin was offered jobs that paid over Rs 6 lakh as annual salary after completing his engineering.

However, his dream of getting admission at an IIM, especially IIM Ahmedabad or IIM Bangalore made him choose CAT. Since he did not receive any form of coaching in the year 2021, he managed to score 96.20 percentile. He was not satisfied with the results and decided to take up the examination again, and enrolled in coaching classes, where they only charged half the fees.

This year, he was able to reach his goal. “Razin has made an exceptional achievement considering his family background and their economic struggles. I am sure he will turn out to be a great student for any of the top IIMs in the nation,” Satish Kumar, the head of the coaching centre where Razin was trained, said.
