Govt school principal held after 15 students allege sexual harassment

Hassan: On Wednesday, the state police arrested the principal of a government school in Hassan after several students accused him of sexual harassment. The incident was brought to light after over 15 students residing in the school’s hostel called the child helpline number on Sunday.

The Child Welfare Committee of the district then paid a visit to the school to find out details regarding the students’ complaints. Following this move, a formal complaint was lodged against the principal by the chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee.

Hariram Shankar, the Superintendent of Police, said that a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 has been registered against the principal. The accused has also been arrested and remanded in judicial custody while the children are undergoing counselling.
