Torture victim gets support on social media

Bengaluru: The recent incident of alleged illegal detention and torture of 22-year-old Tausif Pasha by Byatarayanapura police has sparked a debate on the social media.
In a video statement, the victim claimed he was tied and beaten up while in police custody. “It was a family matter relating to money. My friend had filed a complaint which he later withdrew.
The police picked me up around 2 am and I was brutally beaten with a stick. Four police officers, including a two-star officer, two police constables, and a crime officer, tortured me for hours,” Tausif claimed in the video clip. Later he was admitted to Victoria Hospital for treatment. The police, however, refuted Tausif ’s allegation and claimed he was injured during a fight with his friends and was raising the bogey of torture to divert attention. “He had consumed drugs and was engaged in a fight in the middle of the road in the night. He was not taken into custody at all,” police said.
Audio clip
Meanwhile, an audio clip has surfaced from an unknown source, with the speaker claiming to be a constable from Byatarayanapura police station.
He alleged that the Sub-Inspector was notorious for such unethical behaviour and had even harassed his subordinates. The audio is being widely shared on various social media platforms.
The police have rubbished the allegations, and are trying to identify the source of the audio clip.
