Bengaluru: More than a decade ago, residents of Singapura Layout in Vidyaranyapura were horrified following a cold blooded murder of 35-yearold woman Anu, and her daughter Keerthi, 14, and son Adithya, 11 in their neighbourhood.
The three were murdered On October 19, 2008, with their throat slits and head hit with blunt objects. The residents were even more shocked after they came to know that Anu’s husband Dharam Singh Yadav is the killer. Yadav had eliminated his entire family to marry another woman whom he met on a matrimonial website.
The Vidyaranyapura police through local intelligence had arrested Yadav and sent him to jail. After spending nearly 2.2 years in jail, Yadav started having kidney related problems.
When he was brought to the Urology department of the Victoria Hospital for treatment, he escaped from police custody after throwing chilli powder on the eyes of two policemen on December 4, 2010.
The two policemen Nanjunde Gowda and Lingarajau, attached to the City Armed Reserve who had brought Yadav from the Parappana Agrahara central prisons to the hospital, had faced disciplinary action and were also arrested.
The accused had killed his family after he lied to a woman he wished to marry that he was a bachelor. The woman was a resident of Rajajinagar and the accused had updated his profile on a matrimony website giving all false details.
When she paid him a surprise visit to his house, she found out that he was married. Yadav who wanted to marry her claimed that he had no children from the previous wedding and hence killed his entire family.
“After escaping from police custody, the VV Puram police who was on the lookout for the accused managed to arrest Yadav, 53, from Nellie village in Assam on Sunday and have brought him to the city. The accused was arrested based on technical investigations and through local intelligence at his home town,” said an officer on part of investigations.
The accused who is a native of Mahendragarh in Haryana is suspected to have returned to his native after escaping from police custody.
“The accused was running a wine shop using the licence of another liquor licensee at Ateli town near Narnaul in Mahendragarh. In 2012, he yet again updated his profile in another matrimonial website by furnishing all fake details and managed to marry a woman from Assam and has two sons from his second wife,” the officer added.
The police suspect that the accused could have cheated more women under false marriage promises.
He started working in the Indian Air Force in 1987 and opted for retirement 10 years later. He was getting a pension. He had built a house in Singapura Layout in 1995 and his deceased wife Anu was a homemaker. Keerthi was studying in standard VIII and Adithya in standard VI at Air Force School in Jalahalli.
After retiring from the Air Force, the accused was working as a purchase officer in a private company in Sanjaynagar.
