Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has decided to promote City Police Commissioner CH Pratap Reddy to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP) with effect from January 1, 2023.
The decision was taken soon after the retirement of Karnataka’s Director General of Police and Director General, Fire and Emergency Services, Amar Kumar Pandey, on Monday. According to sources within the police department, there were rumours of discussion regarding a change in the post of Bengaluru police commissioner.
Some of the names suggested for the top post in Bengaluru police included B Dayananda who is currently posted as Director, State Intelligence and MA Saleem who serves as the Special Commissioner for Bengaluru traffic police (BTP).
However, putting a full stop to these rumours, the state government has announced that Pratap Reddy would continue to serve as the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner until further orders.
Reddy was appointed as the Bengaluru top cop on May 17 this year after Kamal Pant was transferred as the Director General of Police (DGP), Recruitment. Kamal Pant too was promoted to the DGP rank while he was serving as the City Police Commissioner in 2021.
