Belagavi: Karnataka State Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) celebrated 138th foundation day of the Indian National Congress (INC) on Wednesday with the most of the party bigwigs joining in Belagavi as the winter session is underway. Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Shivakumar participated in the celebrations in Belagavi, which included a Seva Dal march in the city.
He said that Congress had contributed to the freedom struggle in a way other parties had not, adding that everything from the constitution to the national flag bore the hallmark of the Congress. “Today, we step into our 138th year. Our history is that we have given a voice to the people and have established the democratic system,” he said.
“No matter who criticizes us, even they have to acknowledge Congress’ contributions to freedom, constitution, national flag, national anthem, national song and social justice,” Shivakumar added. Kolar MLA KH Muniyappa said, “Congress had stood for multiculturalism and tolerance, but that was changing under the BJP.
“Today, the BJP is saying that the country should become associated with only one religion. This isn’t right. India is a secular nation. Gandhi ji said that people of all religions should live like brothers so that peace may prevail and development may happen."
