Man held at airport with gold worth Rs 39.9 lakh in rectum

Bengaluru: Customs duty officers at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) seized gold worth Rs 39.9 lakh from two different passengers who were allegedly attempting to smuggle it into the city, Customs officials said on Saturday.

On Friday, a passenger was held for concealing gold paste worth over Rs 28.73 lakh in his rectum. The officials said the man had arrived from the Maldives on Friday and had concealed 532.21 grams of gold paste in three oval packets in his rectum.

Similarly, on Thursday, customs officials, based on profiling and body search, seized a gold bar weighing 210.35 gram, which a passenger arriving from Dubai had allegedly hidden in his underwear. The market value of the seized gold was estimated to be Rs 11.1 lakh.
