Inspector’s assistant caught red-handed accepting bribe

Bengaluru: The Lokayukta Police caught an assistant of a BBMP Revenue Inspector (RI) red-handed while receiving a bribe of Rs 5000 from a resident of Basavanapura, for Khata transfer.

The arrested was identified as Govinda Raju, an assistant of Harish, a BBMP RI from Basavanapura ward number 53 of KR Puram in the city. A complaint from Subhash, a resident, had stated that the assistant had been demanding Rs 5000 from him for a Khata transfer.

A trap had been laid by the Lokayukta Police for the assistant on Saturday, following which the complainant met Subhash and paid him Rs 2500 assuring to pay him the remaining amount after the work is done.  When Govind Raju accepted the bribe, a team of Lokayukta cops led by Deputy Superintendent Uma Devi, arrested him. Further investigation is underway
