Namma Metro makes 1.7 cr revenue on New Year

Bengaluru: The New Year has come as a great start to the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), with the metro service making history. The metro has said that on Saturday night, on New Year’s Eve alone, it saw a footfall of 6.5 lakh commuters, earning them a revenue of Rs 1.7 crore.

It noted that the MG road and Cubbon Park stations received the most commuters. While the metro began the year 2022 with an average ridership of 2 lakh commuters and had increased its ridership to over 5 lakh commuters by December, it has managed to make a record by receiving a footfall of 6.5 lakh commuters on the first day of 2023 alone, MD of BMRCL, Anjum Parwez said.

To make travel smooth for residents of the city on New Year’s Eve, the BMRCL had announced the extension of its service on 1 January till 2 am.
