Love gone awry? Jilted lover stabs 19-year-old at college

Bengaluru: In a horrific incident, a 19-year old student was stabbed to death by a youth at the Presidency College premises in the heart of the city on Monday.

According to sources, the deceased, Layasmitha, had rejected the advances of the youth identified as Pawan Kalyan, 23.

It is alleged that both students hail from Kolar district. Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police, Mallikarjuna Baldandi, however said that the accused is not from the same college."The reason behind the attack is still unknown. After stabbing the girl, he stabbed himself. He has been taken to hospital for treatment and his condition is critical," he said.

Later it was alleged that the youth was a first year BCA student at Nrupathunga University in Bengaluru. The police said that the accused had sneaked into the college premises and confronted Layasmitha. As she rejected his advances, Pawan was seen stabbing her multiple times.

As the girl collapsed on the spot, the accused attempted to stab himself and suffered severe cut injuries on his stomach and chest. A viral video showed security guards shifting Layasmitha's body into the ambulance as the students and other people at the college looked on horrified

The security and college staff rushed to the spot and carried them to a nearby hospital and later shifted Pawan to Bowring Hospital, where he is said to be in critical condition. Layasmitha's body was brought to Yelahanka Government Hospital for post-mortem. A case has been taken up by the Rajanukunte police and further investigation is being carried out.
