Vir Das looking to make a strong comeback in 'Landing'

Bengaluru: Vir Das is making a strong comeback with his new special, “Landing”, which aired on Netflix, December 25th last year.
After facing backlash for his previous monologue “Two India’s” that was held at The Kennedy Centre in Washington, D.C , Das wondered if landing back in Mumbai would lead him ending up in jail. “I’ve stopped shaving, begun doing push-ups.” he said sarcastically while fearing the multiple allegations that he could be charged with in India.
“I did stand-up comedy in 2022. Anything could happen tonight. I could be arrested, assaulted, stabbed, slapped; even worse, discussed on Reddit.” said Das. His comments on empathy towards the elderly made the viewer’s question if gen z knew what gender fluidity actually meant.
He spoke about how parents and grandparents have broken many cultural and racial stereotypes and humorously said “I hope you enjoy this fluidity as much as your parents enjoyed their infidelity,” He then came back to the concept of “Two India’s” with a different approach this time. His comparison between patriotism and nationalism along with his sarcastic commentary bring in a very thought provoking yet humorous Idea of how landing in a different country can completely change your identity as an Indian.
He states how “your parents version of India doesn’t exist” while warning the audience, “You can never question Indian’s about their culture even if you’re an Indian who grew up in a different country”.
He then spoke about the importance of the micro phone in his life and how it gave him and many others a sense of power and the ability to find their voice. He did this while discussing how he was once a kid who was beaten up by his elders and how he re-explored himself through the microphone and is still continuing to do so.
Das concluded with not knowing how to conclude, which is classic Das. His story of feeling like a misfit in both India and the United States can be reflected in his speech and is the reason why people across the world can resonate with him.
