Crime wrap: No major crimes reported in city in 2022

Bengaluru: City Police Commissioner CH Pratap Reddy said no major crimes were committed in Bengaluru in 2022.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, the Bengaluru top cop thanked the city residents for cooperating during the New Year celebrations. “There were over 500 protests in 2022, including the hijab ban and farm laws. We have also apprehended criminals who were on the run for the last 10–15 years,” he said.

Eight mobile Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) deployed in the city to collect and process evidence

34 foreign nationals were deported and over 50 were kept in detention centres  

172 murder cases were registered in 2022 and police have cracked all  

Out of 23 reported cases of dacoity in 2022, 22 have been solved  

Out of 478 robbery cases, police have solved 351 cases  

Out of 151 chain-snatching cases, 143 were solved in 2022  

22 rowdies were arrested and booked under the Goonda Act  

Out of 5066 theft cases, police have solved 1891 cases in 2022.  

153 rape cases were registered in 2022; most victims and accused were said to be either in live-in relationships or relatives of one another.  

579 drug peddlers were arrested in Bengaluru and narcotics worth nearly Rs 90 crore were seized.

CH Pratap Reddy assured the people that the police department would strive to function better in the coming days through this new year.
