No work gets done in govt dept without a bribe: DK Shivakumar

Bengaluru: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Shivakumar kept up the pressure on the BJP State government over corruption, claiming that no work got done in any department without coughing up money. The statement comes against the backdrop of two recent suicides.

One was of Tumakuru-based contractor TN Prasad, who took his life owing to non-payment of dues and the loans he had taken. The second was that of Pradeep, who shot himself in Bengaluru’s Amalipura near HSR Layout. Pradeep mentioned in his death note that he had entered into a business agreement with Limbavali and five others and had paid Rs 2.5 crore.

The plan was to use the funds to build a resort and make Pradeep a partner in the project, which didn’t happen. When the deceased had approached Limbavali, he only managed to secure Rs9 lakh, adding that the MLA did not help him further.

“I have already said that if you were to touch the walls of the government offices, right from Vidhana Soudha to Gram Panchayat, you will hear their reverberating demands of money. If any bill is to be cleared, a commission has to be paid,” Shivakumar said.
