
2 women of same family die in hit-and-run case

Bengaluru: Two women from the same family died on Friday night in a hit-andrun case after a car crashed into their autorickshaw in the city.
The deceased are Haseena (38) and her sister Fazila (40). When the speeding car hit the autorickshaw, the duo was travelling from Channasandra to KR Puram along with their family.
The driver fled from the spot, only to be tracked down and arrested on Saturday.
There were five people in total in the auto-rickshaw: Khalid Khan (39), Haseena’s husband, was driving the auto while their two daughters Sumaiaya (5), Sadia (3) along with Haseena and her elder sister Fazila were seated. While the others, fortunately, escaped the mishap with multiple injuries, the two women died on the spot.
According to the police, the accident occurred near Medahalli skywalk on Old Madras Road. Due to the impact of the collision, the auto-rickshaw was mangled, and passersby swiftly raised to rescue the victims struck and shifted them to the hospital.They are currently admitted to NIMHANS and Khalid is said to be in a critical state, under ICU observation, police say.
The KR Puram traffic police swiftly tracked down the car based on recovered CCTV footage from the tollgate, only within a few hours, and arrested the driver. He has been identified as Santosh Abhiram (30), a software engineer at a private company.
Santosh was returning home with his family when the collision with the auto-rickshaw took place and had sped away, fearing action by the public. The police have subjected him to a medical examination to ascertain if he was influenced by alcohol.
