Four arrested for smuggling red sanders logs

Bengaluru: Kamakshipalya police have nabbed four persons for allegedly trying to transport red sanders logs worth Rs 16.5 lakh from the Huliyurdurga forests in Tumkur district.

The accused were identified as Siddappa, 27, a resident of Kamakshipalya; Ponnaraju, 35, from Kamalanagara; Dhruva Kumar from Laggere; and Harish, 34, hailing from Ramanagar district. Based on credible information, the police intercepted a goods carrier vehicle and recovered 330 kgs of red sanders logs being smuggled into the city.

Following an investigation, the police found that the accused were illegally cutting trees from the forests in Huliyurdurga village near Kunigal taluk and were transporting them to Bengaluru. A case has been registered at the police station and further probe is underway in the matter.
