Bengaluru: In a sad reflection on the sad state of affairs in Uttara Kannada district, the body of a man was carried in a Joli by his close relatives to perform the last rites due to the absence of a road to the burial ground.

According to sources, Damodar Naik, 70, a resident of Beradi village, succumbed to burn injuries on Tuesday when he tried to extinguish the fire that damaged the crops of a neighbour. He was immediately shifted to the taluk hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Since there is no proper road to the burial ground, youth carried the body in the Joli and walked for nearly three km to perform the last rites of the deceased. This problem was reportedly brought to the attention of local MLA Roopali Naik who has failed to respond. Now the villagers have once again requested all political parties to solve their longpending problem.
