
Police rescue youth from kidnappers' clutches after a chase

Bengaluru: Acting swiftly, the police rescued a youth from a gang of four kidnappers after chasing their car for over two kilometres near the Koramangala check post in the city.
Around 11:40 pm on Wednesday, a team of cops led by Adugodi Police Inspector Manjunath were on patrol when they noticed a sedan crash into a barricade near the Koramangala 100 feet Road before speeding away. The police also claimed to have heard someone, from inside the car screaming for help.
The police swung into action and chased the car for over two kilometres and intercepted the vehicle near the Koramangala Water Tank junction. Despite best efforts by the cops to nab them, the three men got out of the car and fled from the spot. However, the inspector along with another cop managed to nab one of the miscreants.
The accused was taken to the police station and was identified as Gopi, while the rescued youth was identified as Touheed, a resident of Bandepalya here. Following an interrogation it was revealed that Gopi and his associates had allegedly kidnapped Touheed from Bandepalya three days ago and had kept him at their secret hideout on the out - skirts of the city.
They had called Touheed's family and demanded a ransom of Rs 65000. It was also revealed that the gang had allegedly threatened to kill Touheed if they failed to pay the ransom. The Adugodi police found a case being filed at the Madiwala police station regarding the matter and the case was handed over to the jurisdictional police.
Police sources said the family of Touheed had approached the Madiwala police station the same night and filed a complaint. The accused Gopi has been handed over to the Madiwala Police who are probing the matter further.
