Local govt engineer bags award at international event

Chikkamagaluru: Tahera Tasneem, an engineer who works for the Tarikere Town Municipal Council (TMC) in Chikkamagaluru district has won the "Excellence award for Best Paper Presentation" at the international conference of Icon SWM-CE 2022.

The conference was held at Sri Venkateshwara University in Tirupathi on "Sustainable Waste Management and Circular Economy". More than 700 representatives from 49 countries participated in the conference.

CMAK, an organisation associated with the Karnataka State government selected 11 persons, including Tahera to make presentations at the conference. Tahera had made a presentation on the best practices adopted at TMC Tarikere for waste management.

The presentation earned the appreciation of the jury and bagged Karnataka’s only award at the conference. She credited the support and encouragement from the directorate, district administration, local MLA, municipal administration and the chief officer for her victory.

“The credit goes to all the Pourakarmikas who have strived for the adoption of these best practices and the people of Tarikere town who have co-operated in implementing the initiatives and keeping the town clean,” Tahera said.
