Ramanagara: There are a lot of thing happening behind bars in prisons and this incident goes to prove it. An inmate of Ramanagara Central Jail celebrated his birthday in prison along with his friends with the incident coming to light when a fellow inmate uploaded pictures of the same on his Instagram account.

The revelation caused major embarrassment to the prisons department and resulted in cops conducting raids inside the jail premises on Tuesday ending in the seizing of two mobile phones. Kiran Kumar also known as ‘Tamate’ Kiran, who is accused of murder, attempted murder and dacoity, celebrated his birthday on January 14 in his cell. Some of the inmates whom he was friends with, participated in the bash.

Fellow prisoner Karthik, who is a murder accused, posted the picture on his Instagram account. After someone noticed the pictures online and informed the cops, the Ramanagara SP raided the prison and seized cell phones from Karthik. Cops have booked four persons under section 42 of the Karnataka Prisons Act (KPA).

“We learned from the public that a man named Kiran celebrated his birthday in Ramanagara jail. So we conducted raids inside the prison and seized two cell phones. We have filed a case against prisoners Kiran, Karthik, Lokesh and Venu, the indivduals visible in the picture (posted online).

We’ll also submit a report to the Additional Director General of Police, Prisons to investigate and learn if any of the prison staff were involved,” Ramanagara SP K Santosh Babu said.
