Bengaluru: In yet another such incident, a sinkhole appeared after a portion of a road caved in on Saturday. In the past 10 days, this is the third such incident that has taken place, pointing to the poor care of infrastructure by civic agencies. A portion of the Ittamadu Main Road in Banashankari III Stage caved in right next to a BWSSB (Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board) drain chamber.
It was barricaded to avoid any mishap and workers from the BWSSB arrived at the spot to fix the issue. Local residents have complained that despite plenty of requests, the civic agency had not paid heed to fixing the damaged road.
According to eyewitnesses, the sinkhole came about while a truck was passing by on the road. The vehicle got stuck for a while in the sinkhole, causing traffic congestion in the area. On Tuesday, a sinkhole appeared on Mahalakshmi Layout Main Road, near the Sapthagiri Convention Centre around 7.30 am. Residents in the vicinity had claimed that the road was recently fixed by civic agencies before the mishap.
Similarly, on January 12, a biker sustained injuries after falling into a sinkhole that arose on a stretch near Brigade Road in the Central Business District (CBD). Contractors of Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) who had just finished underground work of drilling in the neighbourhood refused to be accountable for the cave in.
