Bengaluru: The women unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Bengaluru staged a protest against the alleged molestation and harassment of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal at Freedom Park here.
Maliwal had alle ged that she was molested by a drunken man while she was on an inspection to ensure safety of women near the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) area on Thursday. She had also claimed that her hand was stuck in her assaulter's car and she was dragged for a short distance, reminiscent of another horrifying incident that took place in New Delhi recently.
The protest held on Saturday last came in the backdrop of AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal blaming the Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena and the Centre, to whom the Delhi police answer, for the incident. AAP Bengaluru Women's Unit President Kushalaswamy, who spoke to media persons during the protest, said that the incident had brought shame to the country's capital.
"The Central government, which commands the Delhi Police Department, appears to be neglecting the safety of women living there. The fact that such an incident happened in the capital of the country has created a great deal of anxiety. The assault should be considered as an attack on the women of the country and womanhood, rather than just an attack on Swati Maliwal," she said.
