Bengaluru: Two persons were arrested by the Sanjay Nagar police for duping a private automobile company to the tune of Rs 9.6 crore in the city. The accused were identified as Nikhil and Vinay Babu.
Both of them were working for the company as accountants. In a complaint initially filed with the Sadashiva Nagar police, the owner of the firm alleged that recently the duo had submitted an internal audit report claiming that a payment of Rs 9 crores towards Goods and Services Tax (GST) is due from the company. Believing the report, the owner handed them over the due payment in instalments.
However, he later found out that the accused persons had siphoned off the money instead of paying it. Based on the firm owner’s complaint with the Sadashivanagar police, the duo were arrested. The police also confiscated valuables worth Rs 3 crore from the accused persons’ possession. The case has been transferred to the Sanjay Nagar police who are now investigating the matter further.
