Bengaluru: The two-day state-level Science Expo organised by the Social Welfare Department of the state government began in the city on Friday.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in the presence of Revenue Minister R Ashok, Minister for Major and Medium Irrigation Govind Karjol and Minister of Social Welfare Department Kota Srinivas Poojary and some officials. The Expo began with an exhibition of science experiments by students from over 1,000 schools under Karnataka Minority Welfare Department across the state.

Students from Morarji Desai Residential Schools, Indira Gandhi Residential Schools and Maulana Azad Residential Schools across the districts held innovative scientific experiments showing ways of saving electricity, avoiding human-animal conflict and saving wildlife from venturing into farmers' fields. While some of the students created models to promote road safety, others explained the evolution of the universe and the solar system.

Addressing a huge gathering at the venue, the chief minister congratulated the school authorities and wished the students to achieve their goals and have a successful life. "It is indeed a proud moment for us as we observe the talents of these school children," he said. "The intention behind organising the Science Expo was to develop science aptitude in each student. We need to excel in modern science, including space science and nanotechnology," the CM added.

He further asked the students to come up with inventions that will make the lives of people more comfortable and make our country proud. The expo will continue to be held on Saturday at Tripuravasini Palace Grounds between 10 am and 6 pm here.
