Bengaluru: Lately, incidents of miscreants terrorizing motorists during the night by faking accidents in an attempt to extort money from them, are getting frequently reported.

During the wee hours of Sunday, a couple travelling in their car encountered one such gang in the city. Luckily, the couple had their dash camera on which recorded the entire incident. Later the video went viral on the internet attracting the attention of the police authorities here.

The video footage captured from the dash camera of the car showed the couple travelling on Sarjapur Road near 'Sofas and More' around 3 am on Sunday when two persons coming from an opposite direction on the road, seems to be driving on the wrong side, and purposely crashes into the car even as the car driver slows down immediately. The bike riders can be seen charging at the car driver abusing him and demanding to step out of his vehicle.

Sensing a trap, the couple however refused to step out following which the miscreants started banging on the windows of the car. The car driver's wife can be heard asking her husband to reverse the vehicle to escape them and then drive away with the miscreants chasing behind them.

Later in the day, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Whitefield Division, S Girish said that in a swift response, the Bellandur police arrested the two miscreants in connection with the case. Sources said that the duo was identified as Dhamush and Rakshith. Both are currently being interrogated by the police.

Speaking to News Trail an officer from Bellandur police station said that there are some gangs which have been allegedly operating in the city during the night playing their modus operandi.

“We have arrested several persons forming a gang to extort motorists especially, lone motorists, in the night by either faking an accident or luring them by saying that oil is leaking from the vehicle radiator. As the drivers step out to check, the miscreants rob them of their money, laptops and mobile phones. They also have different approaches like becoming a pedestrian and alleging that the car has hit them”, the police said.
