Woman kills self over ‘harassment’

Bengaluru: A 26-year-old software engineer died by suicide allegedly due to harassment meted out to her by her husband. She breathed her last late Tuesday night at a private hospital she was admitted. Madhuri, a native of Devanahalli got married to Guruprasad, a resident of Thubarahalli in Bengaluru, in 2016.

It is alleged that she consumed a chemical that her sixyear-old son had brought from his school for an experiment on January 25. A complaint was registered by the woman's parents soon after she was shifted to a hospital here. The police obtained her statement while she was undergoing treatment.

In her statement, Madhuri alleged harassment by her husband and in-laws. She also said that recently she came to know about her husband's illicit affair. When she questioned him about it, he is said to have assaulted her. Depressed over this, she took the extreme step, she told the cops.
