Bengaluru: Nearly seven months after a woman went missing from her home in the city, her skeletal remains were found hanging from a tree at an isolated area of Akshaya Nagar in Hulimavu, police told News Trail on Friday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru South-East CK Baba confirmed that the remains were recovered by the police on Thursday. He also recalled that a missing case of a Nepal-based woman was filed at Hulimavu police station on July 8 last year. "We connected the dots to the case and solved the mystery," he said.
Pushpa Dami, 22, a native of Nepal, was residing with her husband, Amar Dami, who reportedly was a construction labourer in the city. "The couple had been married for over two years and had a child. They used to live in Akshaya Nagar, the DCP added.
The Hulimavu police said that last year, Amar Dami had registered a missing case after Pushpa reportedly went missing. It was revealed that Amar and Pushpa were often found quarrelling due to Amar's alcohol addiction. Pushpa had reportedly warned Amar multiple times that she will run away to her native place if he did not give up drinking.
On Wednesday, a person who went into the bushy area behind Hiranandani apartment complex in Hulimavu, was shocked to find a human skull hanging on a tree and reported the matter to the jurisdictional police. "The area is vacant land about 13-15 acres with a lot of trees and bushes. Children sometimes use this place to play cricket." an officer from Hulimavu police station said.
"We recovered the skeletal remains hanging from a tree and called-in a team of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) experts who examined the skull and bones," he added. Further inspecting the area, the police also recovered a woman's slipper and a necklace along with torn pieces of cloth. The FSL experts suspected the body to be six-seven months old.
While the collected articles were being examined by the FSL, the cops started searching for cases related to missing persons in the city. During this, they found that Pushpa Dami had gone missing around seven months ago and that she was a resident of the same area. It is yet to be ascertained whether it was a suicide or a murder.
"The articles and the remains matched with the missing woman. However we are awaiting the DNA test and medical reports for confirmation," the officer added. Further investigation is underway
