Bengaluru: In an unfortunate incident, a one-and-a-halfyear-old girl died while being transported to a hospital in an ambulance, as it got stuck in a traffic jam near Nelamangala.

Huda Kauser, daughter of Ahmed and Ruksana, residents of Tumakuru, reportedly got seriously injured after the family met with an accident near Tiptur on Thursday. While her parents were shifted to a hospital in Tiptur, Kauser was initially sent to Hassan Institute of Medical Science (HIMS) for primary treatment and was being transported to Bengaluru.

According to the sources, the ambulance driver, Madhu, managed to reach the city in one-and-a-halfhour but was caught in a heavy traffic jam near Goraguntepalya Junction. The child was being shifted to Bengaluru's National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (Nimhans) for further treatment. However, due to the delay of approximately 20 minutes in traffic led to her passing away en route to the hospital, sources added.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) recently obtained clearance to purchase adaptive signal lights, allowing ambulances to pass through busy junctions during rush hours. With the help of these sensors, the technology will open the signals for ambulances, detecting the vehicle from as far as 200 metres
