Bengaluru: City police have launched a hunt for a man who allegedly escaped with Rs 1.03 crore cash, which he is said to have siphoned off over a period of time, while depositing into ATM machines, sources from the police told News Trail on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Rajesh Mesta, a resident of Chinnamma Layout and native of Uttara Kannada district.

Police said that the accused who worked for a private agency had escaped with the booty. Police explained that the accused worked at Secure Value India Limited. The agency has a contract to collect money from banks and deposit it in ATM machines here.

The accused Rajesh Mesta was in charge of one of its teams. He was tasked with depositing money into ATM machines in BTM Layout, Koramangala and Bannerghatta Road from December 28 last year. The accused stopped reporting to work from February 1 without informing the office.

Later, it came to light that he had vacated his house and is said to have fled along with his wife. The office grew suspicious when his phone remained switched off indefinitely. When they verified accounts of the money deposited in ATMs, it was revealed that he had not deposited Rs 1.03 crore.
