
State to Centre: Name Shivamogga Airport after BSY

Shivamogga: After Bengaluru, Shivamogga is the fastest growing and developing city said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai adding that the state Cabinet has decided to name Shivamogga Airport as B.S.Yediyurappa Airport. A proposal to this effect will be sent to the Government of India with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to dedicate the airport to the nation on February 27, he said.
Speaking after laying the foundation stones for a slew of development works here on Wednesday, the CM said there is a lot of difference between what Shivamogga was before 2006 and the present city. Works worth around Rs 1,000 crore have been dedicated to the people and distribution of houses under various housing schemes, giving away of Hakku Patra to slum dwellers, education, road, drinking water, urban development, and technology upgradation are all happening.
Work on Shivamogga Airport had been completed within 18 months, he said. The CM also said the state government is committed to providing a permanent solution for the rehabilitation of Sharavathi submerged and displaced families and already, the survey work has been completed.
A report will be submitted to the Centre and after getting its nod, the displaced families will be taken care of. The Government of India has sanctioned Rs 500 crore for Shivamogga-Shikaripur-Ranebennur rail line project with the foundation stone for this project laid by PM Modi during the recent Millet Utsav in Bengaluru.
The CM distributed the final allotment letters to 700 beneficiaries by handing over 288 completed houses of the total 3,000 houses planned under Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation and the state government’s housing schemes; he also dedicated two lakes developed in Shivamogga city for Rs 3.48 crore, a concrete road being constructed with Rs 25.30 crore, a smart education project worth Rs 1.74 crore, a UGD and Water Treatment Plant established for Rs 58 crore and a new building of the Government Ayurveda Medical College built for Rs 15.41 crore.
