Bengaluru: A day after the allegation against a traffic police official of harassing an elderly couple near Sangam Circle, the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) issued a clarification on the report on Wednesday. Speaking to News Trail, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, West, Kuldeep Kumar Jain, said that the claims and allegations were absolutely false.
"It is one-sided reporting of the incident rather than finding out from us what exactly happened. We have complete footage of the incident recorded in our body-worn camera, in which our Traffic policemen and officers from Jayanagar have conducted themselves very well. There was no medical request made at the spot. In fact, the couple converses and walks normally without any trouble after paying the fine.
Anyone who wants to access the footage can walk into our Jayanagar Traffic PS. This footage from starting to ending is almost 52 minutes, which is very long. Nowhere they complained regarding any medical problem, nor were they seem to have any problem," he said.
The official further said that the incident took place on February 2 around 11.48 am when the couple were stopped for not wearing a helmet, which is a visible offence. On checking, they even had old traffic fines.
"Regarding the same, their son gave a complaint the next day over which the Jayanagar traffic inspector verified and informed him on February 4 that there is no truth in what is alleged, and offered him to come and check the body-worn camera footage. However, he did not turn up and rather continued the false allegation in the media, which was blown out of proportion without verifying with us," the DCP added.
