Bengaluru: Inspired probably by Bollywood blockbuster ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’, several candidates have tread the wrong route to secure government jobs but were caught by the vigilance squad and lost the opportunity for a lifetime.
Those candidates caught redhanded, have been permanently debarred from appearing for the examination in that department. Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC) had called for applications to fill some driver-cum-conductor posts, for which the candidates were to undergo a physical test.
The authorities had fixed 55 kg as the benchmark weight for selection. With government jobs becoming fewer every year, aspiring candidates who wished to secure a job in the KSRTC, but were underweight, found dubious ways to increase this by adopting various means. This came to light during the recruitment drive by the KKRTC held in Kalaburagi with dome candidates tying iron rods and the weights inside their undergarments.
The iron rods were found tied to one’s thigh and covered with a piece of brown cloth to match the skin colour. KSRTC vigilance officials got suspicious from their gait and also mismatch between their body structure and weight, so they frisked them. \
The officials were amused on finding iron and weights hidden in their undergarments. They videographed the removed iron rods and weights as part of their job. On questioning, the candidates said they were forced to take this route since the KSRTC had put a 55 kg condition for eligivle candidates.
As many of them were underweight, they tried their luck to get past the physical test this way. However, they did not disclose names of those who gave them this novel of instant weight gain. Those candidates were debarred permanently from taking up any examination in the KSRTC.
The officials were astonished at how the “cheaters” were able to keep iron rods and weights weighing up to 10 kg in their undergarments for hours together. Since this trick has been exposed by the vigilance squad members, such candidates have to think of another way to hoodwink the examiners in future.
