BBMP to fence properties to curb encroachment

The civic agency has over 6,828 properties including schools, playgrounds, hospitals and offices spread across the city

Bengaluru: With the objective of curbing encroachment on its properties, the municipal body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to fence all such assets in the city.

In the newly formed 243 wards, the civic agency has over 6,828 properties including schools , playgrounds, hospitals and offices. It has sought a grant of Rs 25 crore in order to fence all of the properties. The BBMP has 1,527 properties in the East zone, 1,697 in the West zone, 1,337 in the South zone, 423 in Yelahanka, 576 in Mahadevapura, 481 in Bommanahalli, 679 in RR Nagar and 212 properties in Dasarahalli zone under its jurisdiction.

The municipal body has also come up with a new set of guidelines to prevent people from putting up illegal flexes and banners in the city after the Karnataka High Court took note of the issue. Deepak, the special commissioner at B B M P has said that the revenue inspectors have been told to register FIRs whenever illegal flexes are spotted.

However, no FIRs h ave been filed so far. Under the new policy, all flexes – may it be of political parties, movies, conventions and fairs will not be allowed and the revenue inspectors in their respective jurisdictions will supervise the same. Cases will be registered in case of a violation. In the next week, more rules regarding flexes and banners will be rolled out, according to officials.
