Old PHC building now a den of illegal activities

Bengaluru: Some local youths in the Neelasandra area of the city are alleged to have been using an old, dilapidated government Primary Health Centre for their ‘illegal and immoral activities’ right under the nose of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the police.

According to locals, the government facility which was closed five years ago due to various reasons has been in use by local youths at night for illegal activities. The abandoned building is also a place for drunkards causing fear among the residents, especially women who are afraid of walking on the road during evenings.

The News Trail reporter after visiting the said premise found it was littered with a heap of expired drugs, liquor bottles, cups, used condoms and other waste. A heap of wrappers, bottles and expired medicine strips too were laying on the floor.

Expressing their anger against the authorities, the locals rued the indifference of the elected representatives to their constituency and said they were only experts in wasting taxpayers' money. "The land could have been put to better use. And if there are any legal issues then the BBMP should have taken steps to stop illegal activities here.

Residents, especially girls, are scared to use this road. Some bullies and youths are involved in drugs abuse or consuming liquor in the night. But neither the police department nor the BBMP have cracked down on the illegal activities going on here for some time now," the local said.
