Bengaluru: The Varthur police arrested a person on the run after murdering his wife in the city. On February 7, local residents alerted the police after noticing a foul smell from a locked house near Panchmukhi Temple Road in Varthur. Breaking open the door, the police found a decomposed body of a 30-year-old woman, who was later identified as Monisha.
Following a probe, the police found that the woman hailed from Kolkata and had been living in a rented house with her husband, Sheikh Majid Ali, for the last four years. The couple also has a sixyear-old daughter, whom they had left with her grandparents in Kolkata.
Inspecting the body, the police suspected that the woman had been strangled to death. Sheikh was missing, and the cops failed to reach his contact numbers, after which a search was initiated to find him. Procuring further statements from the neighbours, the police registered a case.
Recently, the cops received credible information that the suspect, Shiekh, was sighted enroute to Kolkata. Launching a special operation, a team of police travelled to Kolkata from Bengaluru and nabbed the suspect before he could reach his village. According to sources from police, the suspect was travelling by road when he was intercepted by the cops. After bringing back the suspect, the police interrogated him, during which he confessed to having murdered his wife.
The sources said that he had suspected his wife of an illicit affair, due to which both were often involved in arguments. However, on February 5, their argument turned violent, with Sheikh strangling Monisha by choking her with a towel in rage. However, realising her death, he absconded from the place fearing arrest, sources said. Further probe is underway
