The creative energy at the Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design & Technology was indeed palpable last Saturday. With renewed zest and joie de vivre, the students pulled out all the stops to showcase their design output across SMI’s multiple campuses.
Transformation seemed an operative word at many levels, as material, form, function and metaphor were defied and redefined. Sound was communicated through textiles and Kollam as a motif connected neighbourhoods. An art show, an opportunity bursting with vibrant creative energies, was presented by students across all disciplines and years.
One of the main elements of this year’s exhibit was the fact that the students have after a year and a half returned to showcase their creative pursuits. “Their work showed how this pandemic has helped and acted as a stimulus for the students to challenge, engage and initiate a dialogue with the creative process,” says Geetha Narayanan, Founder- Director, Srishti Manipal Institute of Art Design and Technology.
The show examined all possibilities and challenges of breaking boundaries and engaging in a visual dialogue between the Viewer and Art.
The lineup showcased included specialists from the creative as well culinary arts industry who spoke to the faculty and the students about job opportunities that are emerging across the country and globally in their respective fields through Zoom.
The aspiring practitioners displayed new, invigorating explorations of craft, weft, weave, public spaces, typography, book forms, brands, information, installation, popular culture, storytelling, digital interfaces, and experience.
