Consumers complain bill shooting up after digital meters installed by Bescom

Bengaluru: Several allegations against ‘digital meters’ being installed by the Bescom are being made across the city. Residents have claimed that their electricity bills have significantly increased since the new meters were installed.

Instances of the bill amounting to around Rs 500 and has now shot up to Rs 1,000 are the common complaints. The Bescom has been carrying out a drive to change its electricity meters into digital ones across the city, and has also completed 60 percent of the total houses it hopes to cover.

However, since the drive began, various allegations have been made. Over 70,000 complaints have been filed regarding the same, but the Bescom has not taken any accountability or addressed the matter.
