Bengaluru: Even before the release of the list of candidates for all 224 Assembly seats by the Janata Dal (Secular), the H.D.Revanna couple has started a ‘temple run’ seeking the blessings of Gods and Goddesses ahead of the crucial polls.
For Revanna, it is a do-ordie battle as his wife, Bhavani Revanna is likely to contest the Assembly polls for the first time from Hassan City Assembly constituency that is currently represented by Preetham Gowda of the BJP.
The issue of Bhavani entering state politics is not to the liking of former CM H.D.Kumaraswamy who feels it will send out a wrong impression with as many as six persons from the H.D.Deve Gowda in the Assembly, Council, and Lok Sabha which would give other parties a chance to criticize family politics.
In the coming Assembly polls, Kumaraswamy is planning to field his son, Nikhil Kumaraswamy from Ramanagar which is currently held by Anitha Kumaraswamy. In case Anitha wants to contest, Nikhil would be given a ticket from any constituency in Mandya district.
Kumarasamy has already promised to give the Hassan City ticket to Swaroop Prakash, son of a former JD(S) MLA and caught in a quagmire over candidate selection, he has convened a meeting of elected representatives of the party in Bengaluru on Sunday to elicit their opinion regarding the candidate for Hassan City constituency where two candidates, Bhavani and Swaroop are in contention.
There are reports that Swaroop Prakash may join another party in case he is denied a ticket by Kumaraswamy just to accommodate his ‘bhabi’ in the Hassan City seat.
The JDS supremo, H.d.Deve Gowda is also in a dilemma as he cannot say no to his daughter-in-law or deny a ticket to the son of the party’s former MLA. To avoid any blame, Kumaraswamy is likely to leave the matter to local leaders and convey their feelings to ‘Dodda Gowdaru’ to take a final call.
