Murder accused arrested within 24 hrs

Bengaluru: In a swift action, Jnanabharati police cracked a murder case within 24 hours of it being reported and arrested an accused in the city on Thursday night. On Thursday, it was reported that a carpenter was hacked to death by an armed assailant, while he was returning to his house near Mangammanahalli on Wednesday night.

Following the report of a murder case, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru West, Laxman Nimbargi, visited the spot along with a team of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) experts and a dog squad and conducted a detailed inspection on Thursday morning.

A preliminary probe by the police revealed that the deceased, Dinesh Kumar, 46, was living in a rented house in Mangammanahalli, along with his wife, Lakshmi, and two children. His wife Lakshmi works in a garment factory, sources told News Trail.

Sources close to the family of the deceased said that on Wednesday night, Dinesh returned home from work at 8:30 pm and handed over a vegetable bag to his daughter and went away stating that he had some urgent work to attend to. A few minutes later, a neighbour, identified as Aaron, came rushing to the family to inform them that Dinesh was lying in a pool of blood near Federal bank on Doddabasti road.

The family rushed to the spot and found Dinesh lying unconscious with two severe cut injuries on his neck and face. His bike was lying a few metres away from him, sources said. The family and friends immediately rushed Dinesh to a nearby hospital, where the doctors declared him as brought dead, the sources added. "His left ear was cut off. It seemed like he was attacked with a sharp weapon.

Later the police, while inspecting the spot, recovered the weapons used in the crime which were lying around 40 feet away from the body," one of the relatives of the deceased , said. It was revealed that Dinesh hailed from Andhra Pradesh and had been working as a contract-based carpenter here in the city. According to sources, Dinesh also had bought a site and had built his own house with his own money. A few days before his death, Dinesh had expressed a desire to get the best education for his children.

Based on a complaint filed by Lakshmi, the police registered a murder case and launched an investigation to nab the accused. As the cops were recording the statements from the family and friends of the deceased, it was revealed that a person, identified as Arun Kumar, had taken a loan from Dinesh but was unable to pay him back which led to an altercation between the two men. The cops tracked Arun Kumar, 36, and interrogated him.

Sources from the police told News Trail that Arun had reportedly taken Rs 1 lakh from Dinesh but was struggling to repay the loan. As Dinesh had been forcing him to return the money, Arun asked for more time. However, Dinesh had allegedly abused Arun and his wife over the matter which enraged Arun further. Following this, he attacked Dinesh with a knife and killed him.
