Bengaluru: A man from here has claimed that a metal rod fell on his car when he was driving at the Sandal Soap Factory Metro Station around 10.50 am on Friday. According to Ritesh Shetty, the metal rod fell on his car, damaging its windshield. He was on his way to Peenya to reach his workplace from his residence in Basaveshwara Nagar.
Shetty wondered what would have happened had he been travelling by a two-wheeler. Shetty has filed a complaint at the Subramanya Nagar Police Station and sought action against the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). He has also demanded that the charges of fixing the damage be reimbursed.
However, Yashwant Chavan, the public relations officer (PRO) of BMRCL has refused to take up the responsibility. He has said that since there is no construction or repair work taking place at the particular station, the BMRCL cannot take any responsibility.
He further added that the police can carry out an investigation. Recently, a 40-foot pillar of vertical TMT bars of an under-construction metro pillar fell in HBR Layout and struck a family of four travelling on a two-wheeler. According to the traffic police, the family of four, including the father, twin children (son and daughter) and the mother were on a motorcycle when the pillar tilted and collapsed.
Fortunately, the husband Lohith and the daughter Vishmita survived the mishap. Nine people as well as construction giant Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) were named in an FIR filed by the police. On January 13, High Court of Karnataka took suo motu cognisance of the accident.
